Privacy Policy — DropShare Free
Last updated July 17, 2026
Summary
DropShare Free is a free peer-to-peer file transfer Chrome extension. We do not create accounts, take payments, or store your files on our servers.
What the extension does
- Sends files browser-to-browser (WebRTC via PeerJS).
- Optional password encryption (AES-GCM) runs locally in your browser.
- HTTPS web-link shares use a public receive page so recipients do not need the extension.
Data on your device
- Settings (strict mode, session length, save method).
- HTTPS transfer quota usage for the free 1 GB web-link budget.
- Optional custom receive-page URL if you set one.
This stays in Chrome extension storage on your computer.
Third parties
- PeerJS (0.peerjs.com) — signaling so browsers can find each other. File bytes are intended to go peer-to-peer when possible.
- Receive page host (this Netlify site) — serves the download page HTML/JS only; it does not store transferred files.
What we do not collect
- No accounts or required email.
- No payments (free build).
- No advertising trackers in the extension.
- We do not sell personal information.
Permissions
- storage — settings and free-quota counters.
- Host access to PeerJS and this site — connections and HTTPS web links.
